  • Homestay tour (2hours)

    The Themi Valley Homestay provides interesting cultural activities.The area

    has been conserved for over 20 years in promoting indigineous trees and  shrubs used for various purposes including medicinal herbs,pesticide

    control,fruits,conservation,livestock folder,firewood,fresh air and means for

    bee-keeping.

    Within the Homestay,there is an opportunity to learn and share views on

    technologies applicable in both urban and rural areas to reduce the

    consumption of firewood/charcoal,namely biogas  improved stoves.It is a

    chance to share and learn zero grazing livestock keeping for improved milk

    production in order to promote nutrition  and reduce poverty level within the household,in addition to producing natural manure for organic farming.

    Facilities

    The Homestay can accommodate ten visitors within the household

    compound either in the self-contained rooms or camping tents within the

    attractive, botanical garden.The area also has other options for

    accommodation ranging from three star hostels to hostels within walking

    distance.Traditional or foreign dishes are served on request.

    2-day cultural tour to Umangu Women Environment Conservation Group-Arumeru.

  • Umangu women Group is a model in cultural environment conservation in different respects-herbal farming,organic farming,improved stove-making,food processing and preservation and soap making.The earned profit is utilized to run a day care centre for the children in the area.Interested people can live within the group for a number of days or months.

    Nambala Women Group tour

    Women groups in Nambala have changed their livehood through conservation management by promoting organic farming,bee-keeping,traditional storage tanks,water tanks,stove-making and animal husbandry,including rabbit-rearing.

     

    Kikatiti Environmental Conservation Group tour

    DAKIKA(Dawa za kiasili Kikatiti)is composed of women and men members,with women gholding the majority  of leadership positions.The group started as traders in selling local salt.Through transformation and innovation,they have grown in traditional production of pesticide control and herbal medicine. 

    Historic tour

    On request,a tour can be organized to visit national parks,many cultural and historic areas in Arusha and other tourist regions such as Kilimanjaro,Manyara,Dar es Salaam,Mbeya,etc.

 

Getting there:

Themi Valley Homestay is about 1km from the Clock Tower in Arusha city,along Kanisa road. (Income from tourist visits will be used to conserve the river valley of the Themi river and safeguarding the atural vegetation in order to promote a systematic botanical garden.The long term goal is to put in place sustainable drilled underground water operated and powered by a solar pump so that natural plants/shrubs can be irrigated throughout the year.)
